About the Boat
Charles II (above) is a U.S. Coast Guard inspected vessel which accommodates 30 people easily. There's lots of room for everyone and the captain will see to it that everyone is safe and comfortable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to wear special boat shoes?
Dark soles can scuff the boat so the captain always appreciates when guest wear clear or white gel-soled shoes, but if you don't own a pair, simply wear something that gives you sure footing. Most of the boat's deck has carpet, so ladies can even wear heels.
Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes, we now use TicketLeap to process credit card payment online.
What if it rains?
Rain will not be a problem. The boat has a canopy and clear flaps which drop down and zipper closed to keep passengers dry. If the captain sees foul weather beyond rain, you will be contacted by phone to reschedule or process a refund.
What's the difference between the 10am and 2pm tours?
The wind is less in the early part of the day, so the bay will be calmer. The wind picks up as the day continues so earlier is better in terms of a smooth ride.
F. Scott Fitzgerald lived in Great Neck from mid-1922 to April 1924.
About the Presenter
Eleanor Cox has been involved in the business of book publishing for 15 years. She is an avid reader and admits that she didn't "get"
The Great Gatsby upon reading it in high school. But now? "Reading Gatsby is like time spent with a great friend -- I always wish it could be longer."
She began sailing Manhasset Bay in 2004 and enjoys the area, its rich history and people. On a recent sail, a friend said, "this is the bay is that separated West- and East-Egg in
The Great Gatsby." They discussed the idea of a boat tour, and thought Fitzgerald enthusiasts, history-buffs, and people who like being on the water would welcome it.
She is a member of the
F. Scott Fitzgerald Society and the
Dorothy Parker Society.
